From the Pastor’s Desk

Happy New Year! Yes, the new liturgical year has begun as we continue our journey together toward out heavenly home. As the season of Advent unfolds we look for King Jesus’ return in glory. The beginning of the Liturgical Year of Grace 2010 reminds us that we are to be prepared for Jesus to return at any moment – either at our death or in the parousia. While some Catholic traditions wear purple vestments, we wear blue vestments to show our hope for the coming of our King. So while the world is decking the halls and singing “Santa Claus Is Coming to Town,” we Christians are lighting our advent wreaths and praying Maranatha – Come Lord Jesus!

Prayer Requests for the Living: Helen Reed, Michael Cavins, Bernie Thompson, Jr., Jay Dever, Jr., Gene L. Thompson II, Rev. Joseph Long, Shirley Cavins, Gene Strickland, Hazel and Richard Denig, Loraine Nagy, Bishop Norbert M. Dorsey, CP, Joan and Peter Podunavac, Suzannah Cavins, missing and exploited children, the armed forces of the USA, the Homeless and Unemployed in our community; and those infected and affected by HIV/AIDS.

Prayer Requests for the Dead: Rosaura Delgado and the Souls in Purgatory.

Pray for Our Seminarians: Gordon Barcalow, Jeff Bray, and all seminarians.

New Members: We wish to welcome Patricia Gavora to our parish.

Baby Shower for Jesus: Our 3rd annual Baby Shower for Jesus is coming up. Please purchase a new baby item in honor of Our Lady of Guadalupe, Patroness of the Americas. You may bring your gift to the December Pot Luck/Baby Shower on Sat., Dec. 12, from 4 – 6PM as well as your dish to share. If you can’t make the Baby Shower you may still drop your gift off at either Mass on Dec. 13.

The Messiah: The 2009 concert is today at 3:00 pm at the Bob Carr Performing Arts Centre. It is offered free to the community.

JMJ Life Center: Our parish raised $118.81 through the October Baby Bottle drive. Ms. Kovats, the director, has written to thank all who participated.

New Hymnals: This Sunday we begin utilizing our new permanent worship aid, Journey Songs. So far we’ve had about 38 hymnals memorialized. If you wish to honor someone, living or deceased, please ask for the special hymnal envelope.

Parish Council: This body provides advice to the pastor in his stewardship of the parish. For the next year the following people will serve on the Council: Gordon Barcalow (Liturgy/Music) and Gene Thompson (Finance). Please feel free to discuss your concerns with them. As always you may bring those concerns directly to the pastor.

For the Ride Home: Reflection
Why does Jesus enter history and take on flesh?
How does Jesus coming into history change your life?
How do you take on the flesh that is Jesus and become Christ for others?
When have you done this?

The word of God, as incarnated in Jesus, needs to take on real flesh in our own bodies and lives and be the body of Christ on earth.  Like Jesus, our lives must be our message and our lives must speak of and give real flesh to peace, love, holiness, and fidelity.  When people look at our lives, what they see there must enable them to trust and give themselves over in trust.  The word needs to continue to have flesh in our lives.  This is our real mission.
